In the wake of #MeToo campaign, the women are out naming as well as shaming their abusers. Today, it is one of the most popular singers Kailash Kher. There is not one but many women who have accused him of sexual misconduct. The singer-composer Kailash Kher is facing accusations of sexual harassment though he has refused all the charges in the statement but still there are continual fresh allegations that are pouring in against him from those who know him professionally and personally. Sona Mohapatra
Sona Mohapatra is the first in the list to accuse him of behaving inappropriately with her not on one but on multiple occasions. She also alleges singer-composer Anu Malik to be a prompt harasser. “I met Kailash for coffee in Prithvi Cafe to discuss a forthcoming concert where both our bands were playing and after the usual, a hand on my thigh with lines likes, you’re so beautiful, feel so good that a ‘musician got you’ (Ram) not an actor. I left soon after,” she wrote.
She says, “Kailash is a serial offender and has been for years, as are many others like Anu Malik in the industry. I cannot be tweeting about everyone right now cos I’m working 18 hours a day. Also, I cannot comment on many others basis hearsay. That would be unfair. Many journalists have been asking me for stories thinking that I’m most likely to ‘spill the beans’. It is important that we stick to facts and our personal experiences to make this a serious and credible movement to help clean a system & lopsided power structure. It is just a start but an important one, (sic)” she said.

There is yet another survivor, who does not wish to tell the anme but is a family friend of the singer with whom he behaved inappropriately with her. It was with a birthday message that the lady sent him that it all started. As a revert to the text, he sent her a text that dragged her to an uncomfortable position he called her and used phrases full of sexual innuendos. She says, “He told me he felt a spiritual connection with me and also found me physically attractive. He then used words such as ‘sweet’ and ‘sexy’ to describe me and later asked me to accompany him for an upcoming tour. I remember being petrified and confused.” Regardless of the discomfort with his proposition, the lady said she would let him know later.
To persuade her he sent another text, “Travel with me. You won’t have so much fun travelling with your boyfriend or husband.” After this she never spoke to him again. She claims that Kher’s wife, later apologized to her for such a behavior on the end of her husband. She further said that it was other women coming to the forefront who motivated her to speak as well. further she says, “As women, we tend to doubt our own judgment and let things pass. I called him out only because my conscience did not allow me to keep mum when voices of other women were being muzzled. Staying silent did not feel right.”
Natasha Hemrajani
A popular journalist Natasha Hemrajani is another women who has accused the singer of inappropriate actions and for sexual misconduct,. She says that he touched her inappropriately in 2006 when she was at his Mumbai home to click some pictures. There she was accompanied by another female colleague. Kailash Kher sat between the two women and then repeatedly touched them during the course of the interaction as a result of which the two women left shortly. She recounts as follows:
“I was sent with my colleague, a woman journalist, to take pictures of Kailesh Kher at his home for an interview. During the interview, this creep sat between us as close to us as he could. He also kept putting his hands on our thighs (on the skin above our skirts),” she wrote.
We were appalled & left as soon as possible. I discussed with my colleague the idea of writing the interview from the point of view of unwelcome sexual molestation but she said the paper would never publish it because it would be libel (even if we were both witnesses)
Simran Soni
Simran Soni has accused the singer of sending her “creepy” messages on WhatsApp. She writes, “Although what happened with me was smaller than the rest of the accounts, I spoke up because I wanted to empower other women. I was a fan reaching out to him on social media and he saw me as a good target. He used to say inappropriate things under the garb of sufism, things that were plain creepy.” She wrote, “Here I write my #MeToo story– and I name Kailash Kher. Guess what his profile bio says- Adiyal bairagi hu, ziddi anuragi hu. How poetic right? I will show you what it means- “I am a stubborn recluse, a stubborn lover” I wish I knew what this meant much earlier!
“What followed completely destroyed the ideal KK. He is a predator. He write things poetically. things like – “tum meri pagli ho. Drown in my love. Tum meri jogi ho. Mirror me dekho mai dikhunga tumhe. Touching every part of your soul.” It was here when I realised what he is,” she wrote.
Varsha Singh Dhanoa
Varsha Singh Dhanoa has also accused Kailer Kher of sexual harassment. To discuss the same in the wake of #Metoo campaign she has posted a video on YouTube. In the video, she accused Kher of persuading her and trying to come in close proximity with her even though she did not welcome the gesture. This left her totally traumatised as she had always considered Kailash to be her ‘guru’ and respected him the same way. In the video she has also accused music composer Toshi of unwanted sexual advances. Not only did he accuse her for the inappropriate behaviour but also for forcing him onto her.
Kailash Kher denies all sexual harassment and misconduct allegations against him
He passed a statement as follows. “For all those who know me and have come across me, will know how much I respect humanity, especially women, even more for the ones who work in media since their work is difficult.” He further wrote, “I was travelling and when I heard about this news, I got extremely disappointed to know what my state of happiness has been taken for. I am neither aware of any such act that has been mentioned nor remember it.”
