Chandigarh’s ride from Patiala is full of fun and entertainment. You can head to the Sukhna Lake, Rose Garden, and Rock Garden in Chandigarh.

Head to the Chattbir Zoo

Chattbir zoo located near Zirakpur is home to some of the world’s largest and unique mammals, reptiles, and birds. Built around the seventies, Chattbir is Punjab’s largest and most attractive zoo. You will get to see the Asiatic lions, which are getting into the extinct species category now. 

It is extremely incredible to see the wild animals moving freely on the zoo grounds. This small piece of land has turned into a habitat of some of India’s largest and wildest animals. Visit this zoo and watch the wild animals roaming around the area.

The Festival of Baisakhi

Two of the most popular festivals that are celebrated with so much enthusiasm and fun in Patiala are Guru Purab and Baisakhi. Baisakhi indicates the beginning of the solar year for Sikhs. People light up the entire city and decorate their homes during this festival. The locals of Punjab are dressed in colorful attires. They look exceptionally gorgeous. 

To know the Punjabi culture and get a chance to explore their tradition, visit Patiala during Baisakhi. You can even purchase Punjabi clothes from the nearest shopping centers. Baisakhi is celebrated on 13th April every year. So, that is the best time to visit Patiala and blend with Punjabis.

Visit the Qila Mubarak Complex

Commonly known as the Fortunate fort, the Qila Mubarak Complex is a perfect example of Punjabi’s architecture skills. Everything you find inside the Qila is about Sikhs. Their historical weapons, different types of mirrors, chandeliers, armours, and the beautiful paintings and arts of Sikh leaders can all be explored in the hall of this Qila. 

The Androon hall is made of varying glasses. The structure is way too magnificent to be ignored. If you want to become familiar with the Punjabi culture, their lifestyle, and history; then Qila Mubarak Complex is worth a visit.

Offer Your Prayers at Gurdwara Dukh Nivaran Sahib

Punjab is famous for the Sikh’s worship place “Gurdwara”. If you have never been to a Gurdwara before, Patiala is the best place to explore Sikh’s holy place. You can offer your prayers to the Lord here. Located near the Patiala bus stand, Gurdwara Dukh Nivaran Sahib has a great history. 

An old and handwritten manuscript (placed in the Gurdwara) says that Bhag Ram requested the ninth leader of the Sikh community named ‘Guru Tegh Bahadur’ to visit his city and purify it from the diseases and ailments that are eating up the residents of the village. The moment Guru Tegh Bahadur visited the village, the critical diseases disappeared. Many devotees visit Gurdwara every month. They even dip in the water near the holy shrine to free themselves from sins and get healed. They believe that all types of illnesses can be treated if you take a dip in the Sarovar of this Gurdwara.
