Raksha Bandhan” is made up of two words “Raksha” which means protection and “Bandhan” which means Bond. So the Word Raksha Bandhan means the bond of protection. This festival is celebrated in the holy month of Sharvana on the full moon night, often called as Purnima. Raksha Bandhan festival is being celebrated from thousands of years and has many mythological stories associated with it in which the underlying thing is the love of brothers and sisters. Once during a war with King Shishupal, Draupadi tied a torn piece of cloth from her saree to the wrist of Lord Krishna as the symbol of care and protection. And In turn, Lord Krishna promised to protect Draupadi from any harm. Year passed by when once Pandavas, Husbands of Draupadi lost her in the game of dice against Kauravas who then tried to remove the saree of Draupadi. At this hour of need, Lord Krishna rescued Draupadi by elongating the saree of Draupadi so much that Kauravas got tired of pulling it. Since then, this festival of Raksha Bandhan is celebrated with great enthusiasm and joy, celebrating the unique bond between siblings.
